Background:
The scholarship celebrates the contributions made to Rotary Down Under by its founder, Paul Henningham and his successor Bob Aitken in the 25 years over which they managed and developed the magazine’s publication.
Criteria:
To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen; the holder of an Australian permanent resident visa or permanent humanitarian visa.
- Be enrolled in the 3rd year of studies towards an undergraduate degree with a Journalism specialty.
- Intend to study Full-Time and internally. A Full-Time waiver can be granted in instances where the student can demonstrate a need to study part time (e.g.
carer responsibilities, long term medical condition, currently working part time in a law related field). - Intend to use the funds towards any costs associated with completing their studies, including but not limited to: course fees, resources, technical support.
- Can not use the funds towards living expenses such as rent, commuting or food.
- Can account for their use of the funds at the end of the academic year, or on graduation, whichever comes first.
- Will be available during the first 6 months after graduation to assist on an as needs basis towards the publication of various RDU products as appropriate,
including eNews, magazine, web page and social media.

Applicants are required to submit personal and academic details:
- Personal details: Name, address, phone, email
- Place of study
- Course of study
- Copies of academic transcripts
Applicants are also required to submit two (2) written papers:
- Describe in 600-800 words your situation in 5 years’ time and the application of your journalism studies on your life.
- Investigate the presence and effect of Rotary in your area and report in 1000-1200 words on its impact in the community both locally and internationally.

Selection:
- A panel will determine the awardee for the next academic year based on details submitted.
- An interview may be included in the selection process.
