Inspiring through impact

The power of public image.

What people think about Rotary affects us in so many ways. We are a very trusted organisation and need to work to keep that recognition. Strengthening our public image is the role of every club, Rotarian and Rotaractor.

Public Image

Public Image is the collective perception, reputation and identity of a Rotary club (and hence Rotary) within its community and beyond. It is how the club is perceived by its members and the general public.
Building a strong public image involves showcasing the club’s values, mission and impact through various channels, including social media, community events and publications.

What you can do

Clubs and individuals can assist in creating a positive public image for Rotary by highlighting their service projects, humanitarian initiatives and contributions to community development.

It’s about portraying Rotary as a trusted and respected organisation dedicated to making a difference in the world.
By effectively managing public image, clubs can attract new members, engage existing ones and garner support for
their endeavours.

Using correct branding also strengthens our public image.

Increasing awareness of Rotary’s impact locally and throughout the world is vital to sustain membership.Let people know the IMPACT of what Rotary does rather than the basic, procedures or details of where and when you meet. Inspired people are more likely to volunteer and/or join.

Upcoming strategy

Rotary South Pacific is working on clarifying the role of Rotary in the minds of the public. With seven Areas of Focus, five Avenues of Service and four Pillars, it can be confusing for people to know what Rotary does!

We know we do a lot but how do we position ourselves to the public, whether potential members or partners, governments and businesses?

The public perceives that we are fundraisers for other organisations.

While we can do that, it is the impact of what we do that should be highlighted. Presenting a cheque is not newsworthy, showing the impact of what the fundraising does is.

Five things to do NOW:
  1. Check your website is up to date: Current projects, correct contacts, all links working.
  2. Post regularly on social media, share posts from Rotary Down Under, Rotary South Pacific and other clubs.
  3. Check your branding is compliant.
  4. Do a public image plan for your next event.
  5. Create a library of great Rotary People of Action photos!
