1.25 million Rotarians by 2030

Rotary’s goal of 1.25 million members by 2030 calls for sustainable growth, stronger club experiences and a shared commitment to helping more people find connection, purpose and belonging.

Words Brian King. Director of Membership Development.

As Rotary approaches its 125th anniversary, RI has set an ambitious, yet achievable goal: growing our membership to 1.25 million Rotarians by 2030, while also sustaining at least 125,000 Rotaractors.

This marks the first time the organisation has established a specific multi-year membership target. It’s one of the many ways we’re working to strengthen Rotary’s future.

Rather than pursuing rapid, unsustainable expansion, we are focused on steady, intentional progress that will enhance our ability to create connections and serve communities around the world. To achieve this goal, we are targeting about three per cent annual growth over each of the next four years.

Intentional, sustainable growth not only involves bringing in new members, it also means giving our existing members even more reason to stay. It means establishing new and different club models that may appeal to new audiences. It means offering more opportunities for people to find a sense of connection and belonging at a time when loneliness and social isolation continue to rise in many communities.

Every new member brings fresh ideas, new talents, different perspectives and future leadership potential. Growing clubs means greater capacity to launch meaningful service projects, increase fundraising efforts, and address local and global challenges.

While the 1.25 million figure provides unified focus, membership growth is about much more than numbers; it’s about people.

Achieving this vision will take a collective, coordinated effort. Growing Rotary is a shared responsibility involving club leaders, district and regional teams, and the Secretariat, all working together.

Rotary is investing in innovative tools and strategies to make joining easier and more welcoming. We recently introduced a new prospective member management system that connects people with clubs that are right for them based on their interests and the experiences they’re seeking. This system also makes it easy for us to stay engaged with them throughout their membership journey to help them take advantage of all Rotary offers.

Ultimately, Rotary’s future depends on the experience clubs create to serve their members and communities. Members stay where they feel valued, inspired and connected to a meaningful purpose.

By creating welcoming environments, engaging service opportunities and strong leadership, clubs can catalyse – and sustain – growth and expand Rotary’s impact for generations to come.

1.25 million members is not just a milestone; it’s an opportunity to amplify Rotary’s strategic priorities. And we all play a part in reaching this visionary goal.

Here are a few ways you can help:
  • Ensure your club has an established process for welcoming prospective members and managing prospective member inquiries.
  • Review your club details on My Rotary – this is how prospective members will find you!
  • Embrace new club models as complementary to existing club experiences; not as competition.
  • Prioritise the club experience!
