Rotary returns to Sigatoka

A new club has chartered on Fiji’s Coral Coast.

After years without a Rotary presence in the area, Sigatoka, Fiji, has officially welcomed its own Rotary club, with 18 charter members formally inducted at a charter evening held on 27 July at the Crows Nest.

Around 40 guests gathered to mark the occasion, including Past District Governors Malini Raghwan and Vineeta Nand, along with members of the Rotary Club of Suva Central, which sponsored the new club into being. The evening was one of celebration and connection, reflecting months of groundwork to bring Rotary back to this corner of District 9920.

While unable to attend in person, District Governor Elect Raj Chand, who also serves as District 9920’s New Club Development Chair, said it was a proud moment to see Rotary re-established in Sigatoka. He also thanked Ashika Devi, now District 9920’s Member Attraction Chair, for her help coordinating arrangements on the ground.

Raj also acknowledged the support of Immediate Past District Governor Kirsten Hawke, whose guidance behind the scenes helped pave the way for the new club’s formation.

The Rotary Club of Sigatoka marks District 9920’s second new club charter this Rotary year, a milestone that reflects the district’s continued momentum in growing Rotary’s presence across the region.

The formation of the Rotary Club of Sigatoka adds a new chapter to Rotary’s footprint in Fiji, strengthening the network of clubs working towards community service, fellowship and international goodwill across the country.

Located about an hour’s drive from Nadi, Sigatoka is best known as the gateway to Fiji’s famous Coral Coast – a stretch of coastline celebrated for its resorts, golden sandy beaches and laid-back charm. It’s a fitting home for a new Rotary club, with a strong local community and a steady flow of visitors that offer plenty of opportunities for service projects and partnerships in the years ahead.

With 18 charter members now officially on board, the Rotary Club of Sigatoka begins its journey with the support of its sponsor club, Suva Central, and the backing of District 9920’s leadership. As the club settles into its identity and begins planning its first community initiatives, all eyes in the district will be watching a new Rotary story unfold on the Coral Coast.
