New classroom for earthquake affected school in Türkiye
Assisted by a district grant of $2,444, the Rotary Club of Nerang, Qld, has donated a container home to Adana Topalak Village Primary School in the small town of Dortler Topatak, Türkiye.
The school lost one of its three classrooms in the earthquakes that devastated the region in 2023.
The 27m2 container home was fitted out with two rooms, a bathroom, toilet and kitchen, as well as the installation of waste and clean water.
Past President of the Rotary Club of Nerang, Mehmet Tavli, was at the opening ceremony on September 21, 2023, where he was joined by president of the Rotary Club of Adana Tepebag, Türkiye, Serhan Serin, and club members. The school principal, teachers, students and local government representative were all on hand to witness the handover of the new school building.
The building now belongs to the school and will be used as a classroom during the week and an art room for young girls on weekends.
