Planning your social media content
Consider who you want to find your posts and what message you want to communicate to them, what you want them to know about your club, or what you want them to do. Each post can offer people something by eliciting emotion, entertaining them or supplying information.
You want to create content that conveys your message and also portrays club members as People of Action. Whenever you plan a project, think about how you’ll talk about it on social media and the story you want to tell: Can you show the issue, the solution and the impact?
Also designate someone to be responsible for taking photos or videos at each event or service project.
Content sources
Creating and posting your own content lets you showcase your club’s actual members and activities, while sharing content from other sources helps to strengthen Rotary’s message and promote your community partners. Here are some sources of content that you might use:
- Rotary International’s social media accounts. Find all of its accounts at rotary.org/social-media and follow them to stay up-to-date and find content you can share.
- Rotary Down Under’s social media accounts – see www.facebook.com/rotarydownunder and @rotarydownunder
- Trusted organisations. Share items from Rotary’s official partners, local news sources, and organisations you work with in the community to bring variety to your content and keep it relevant. To celebrate a partnership, share the spotlight, or promote a partner organisation, tag the organisation by using its username or the hashtags that it uses for itself.
- People in your club, district or zone. Make the most of posts that other Rotary members have created. By doing so, you’ll not only support your fellow members but also show your audience what our members do and highlight the vibrancy of your club and others.
The importance of timing
Posting regularly keeps your content more visible in your audience’s feeds. As you become more familiar with your audience and its patterns of engagement, you’ll learn the best times for you to post content. When you know this, you can also explore the scheduling tools on various social media networks that allow you to set content to be posted automatically at a specified time and date.
